AWARD is pleased to announce the winners of its annual competition for advanced science training. This year, 19 of the 32 proposals submitted were successful in this highly competitive process. Of the 19, 11 won a research attachment, four will attend a world-class course on gender mainstreaming in programs and projects, two were invited to the Service Learning Program for Women at New Mexico State University, and the hosts for two fellows will be determined within the next few weeks.
Current AWARD Fellows with post-master’s and post-doctoral degrees are eligible to compete for a research attachment or other advanced science training. Fellows are attached to centers of excellence for four-to nine months in order to conduct research under the supervision of highly experienced and seasoned scientists. The chief objective of the research attachments is to help fellows build solid skills for producing the technological innovations and advances required for positive, sustainable impacts in agricultural R&D in Africa. Some fellows’ goals for advanced science training are better served with a specific course. These are selected very carefully and in close collaboration with the successful fellows.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development provide much of the funding for the research attachments, but we also have corporate and foundation sponsors, such as Novus International, Dow AgroSciences, Agropolis Fondation, and a private philanthropist, who generously cover costs to make these opportunities available to AWARD Fellows.
Our warm congratulations to the winners of AWARD’s advanced science training.
